trying to reload XP, having major problems.

hello, i have an inspiron 8600 with windows xp home edition on it.   problem, i was getting a blue screen with memory dump ever time i turned off/restarted my computer. following the online diagnostics, it said there was aproblem with my Iomega software.   so, it suggested a fix, i downloaded the fix from the Iomega site and installed the fix. my comp still had the same problems so i decided to just uninstall the Iomega program because i actually didn't need it anymore.   same problem after uninstall, then diagnosed more and it said reinstall the software and uninstall a different way. the different way was going to program files\Iomega\system32, then it said click on 'uninstall applservice', so i did, and then restarted my computer.   when the comp started back up, the OS won't load up, it keeps going through the screen with options like normal, safe mode, previous mode before prob, ect..., none of these options work, they keep booting me back to the same screen with the menu options.   so i decided to reload my windows, i went to repair, then as it is loading the set up i come across an error window that says it needs the 'asms' file from windows service pack 1. i followed the online microsoft advice but it got no where, but then i replaced 'd' drive with 'c' drive and then it continues for a mintue and then gives me an error 'NT5INF.CAT' and says i need to load it from the windows service pack 1. and to give it a file path.   so now i am stuck, i am worried about losng my data also, need help getting my computer up and running please!

did you pick the first repair? you should of picked install windows then pick that repair.
