upgrade e6500 WinXP to Win8.1 - error - msvcrt.d11
I just purchased Win8.1 from Dell to upgrade my Dell Latitude e6500 running XP to Win8. When I insert the install disk I have to manually start setup.exe. The first message I get is:
setup.exe - Entry point not found: the procedure entry point __CxxFrameHandler3 could not be located in the dymanic link library msvcrt.dll
after I click OK, I get this message:
Install Windows: the file 'autorun.dll' could not be loaded or is corrupt. Setup cannot continue. Error code is [0x7F]
So I cannot install Win8. I do not know if these offending files are on the install disk or my WinXP drive. Any suggestions?

Since you need to do a clean install anyway, boot to the DVD to install 8.1. If you get an error that way, then it is your media ... try downloading and burning the DVD again.

See Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean Install of Windows 8.1:

This will instruct you in performing the clean install via the Dell BIOS opposed to within Windows XP.
