Hi Bob Moyer,

The error 0x80070017 translates to "CRC Error" which means that the files that are being copied from the disk are not making it to the hard drive with the same structure, meaning that the ‘original’ files on the disk are being modified/changed/corrupted while being copied to the ‘destination’ location on your hard drive during the install.

This usually means either a bad DVD, or a read error on the DVD drive.

I would suggest using a different DVD drive or copying the installation files to a USB stick (4 GB or bigger) and performing a USB install. You may refer to the link: http://dell.to/15X1jor.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to reply for any further assistance.

This system should work fine with Windows 7. Follow Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean install of Windows 7:

As mentioned above it is likely bad media. Follow Step 1 to download media which has service pack 1 included and create a bootable USB.

For the upgrade license step 2 doesn't apply so skip this step.
