usb host controller

Question

I have a new MP3 player and when i plug it into my computer i get a message that there are no usb host controllers installed on this computer  what is this? HELP

It helps if you tell us what model PC this is, what version of Windows you use etc. Do other USB devices work on this system? Ron

I have a dell dimension 2100 computer about 5 years old   I have windows xp  i have never used any other USB devices before   Thanks

XP, XP with SP1 or with SP2?

Disconnect the USB device. Open Device Manager and expand list under USB. Right-click and uninstall all USB entries. Exit Device Manager and reboot. XP should reinstall the USB ports. Try the player again.
