to do this you would have to install xp first,then vista,so you will need to wipe the drive clean. Xps 410

No, you don't have to install XP first. Follow this procedure. It works quite well.

You don't have to wipe the drive. You can successfully install and dual boot XP after Vista has already been installed. The link given above is a good one to follow.
You should know that every time you boot into XP, you will lose your Vista restore points....this site shows how to fix that. I have the two OS's on separate physical disks, so I just hide the Vista disk in XP and all is fine.
