According to Canon's site, the necessary driver is on your XP install disc.

Dear Richard,

Thanks for your help.  Please bear with me and my limited knowledge.

So does that mean I need not/should not mess with those two floppy drivers, merely to plug the printer into the new laptop and it should tell me to install xp disk?

But if new laptop comes with xp installed, does that mean I will not receive an xp install disk?  Or will disk come with laptop?  My friend got laptop from another company and said the xp program CDs did not come with package, only came installed.

Thank you.

Richard, I just checked your stamp site.  If that is YOUR interest, we have stamps in common.  I put together the world's largest judo stamp site, which includes other martial arts plus coins and telephone cards.  If interested, go to http://usja-judo.org/~judo.stamps.

Hi Ronald,

Thanks for the validation, but trust me, I come to these boards with questions all the time.

The Inspiron will have XP pre-installed, and Dell will also provide an XP disk, so you shouldn't need to use the floppies. (Hang on to them, though, because, well, you never know...) The laptop should simply recognize the printer and install the correct driver(s) automatically for you. If you experience problems after that, go to Canon's site to see if they have updated the driver(s), and download the newest one(s).

Your website is very impressive; I've only scratched its surface. Mine needs some updating, which I hope to get around to in the coming months. I put it together using the free program provided by my ISP, which, unfortunately, doesn't give one any flexibility in design or layout. For instance, I want to add informational text for each stamp, but this program only allows short captions.

One nice thing about collecting glassblowing and glass-related stamps is that there aren't many out there, and those that are tend to be affordable. (I intentionally don't collect stained glass, though, because too many countries churn those out around Christmas, and I'd go broke pretty quickly. You may feel similarly regarding the Olympics.  ) By the way, you might want to list your site here. It doesn't appear there are any judo sites there yet. The site hasn't been updated in a year, but it does happen eventually. Months ago, I notified them when my site's address changed after my ISP was swallowed up by Comcast, and am still waiting for them to correct my link.

Have a Happy New Year,

Richard
