windows upgrades
An update for microsoft silverlight (KB2814124) keep coming up in update but it will not update. IT says windows update encountered an unknown error code 641. I tried to uninstall silverlight but a window comes up with , THE WINDOWS INSTALLER SERVICE COULD NOT BE ACCESSED. tHIS CAN OCCUR IF THE WINDOWS INSTALLER IS NOT CORRECTLY INSTALLED. CONTACT YOUR SUPPORT PERSONNEL FOR ASSISTANCE. I can not remember if this program came with the computer or if it is something I installed. I have a 2007 DIMENSION E521 desktop. My security icon keep on flashing that security need attention and I suppose it's because of that silverlight. If Silverlight is something I don't need than how do I uninstall it or how do I get the update to install.

Hi tinkerman66,
Please share the operating system installed.
You may run a Microsoft Fix it for Windows update issues from link: http://bit.ly/kmAk02 and may also check the link: http://bit.ly/rQKxw
Sometimes, if the Installer service is disabled, you will get the same error. You may manually check the status of that and may turn it on by going to 'Start' -- > 'Run' -- > type 'Services.msc' and hit Enter.
Then scroll down to 'Windows Installer' and double-click on it. Set the 'Startup Type' to 'Manual' and click 'Start' to start the service.
You can also start the service by going to Start, Run and type in 'net start MSIServer' into the Run box.
Please share the findings.

I tried all the suggestions to no preval. The fix it ran and said it fixed the problem, but didn't.The Services.msc did not have a Windows Installer and the net start MSIServer took me to a Microsoft forum and I did not know what to do then.Is there anything else I can try or did I do something wrong?
