wmiprvse.exe application error

I'm running XP Home Edition with SP2, 3.2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 processor, 4GB RAM, protected by regularly updated Norton 360 anti-virus.  The PC undergoes weekly virus and adware checks so I’m sure It can’t be a virus.   I've been getting this error message for a while but so far hitting OK hasn't had any effect and everything still seems to be working fine but web pages load very S-L-O-W almost freezing. It occurred first about six months ago but it went away and now it’s back.      The error occurs always at startup, seemingly for no reason. The exact message is:
“Wmiprvse.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x7c91103c" referenced in memory could not be "written"

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on Cancel to debug the program.”
Could anyone shed some light on how to fix this error? I’ve read that wmiprsve.exe is a native windows service but the rest of the technical jargon is beyond my comprehension. Has anyone else encountered this error message? How is it fixed?

Every anti-virus out there is 2-3 weeks behind any current virus or malware, so to assume it is not a virus is incorrect.

Go to this forum http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board?board.id=si_hijack  and read the RED link at the top and then post your log on that forum along with what you have stated here, also post the Model of Dell you have and the OS Version. Please include a description of all your symptoms of malware.
