xpro sp2 reinstall error: unable to use installation disk
Hi,
I attempted to reinstall xpro on my dell due to an error ( the system crashed/freezed when trying to delete a user, the error messsage was mshta.exe (I think that was the file)is not responding) This happened several time, actually everytime i tried to delete the user, it is just not working. I get to the point of deleting the files for the user and the program freezes at that same point everytime.
Anyway, I attempted to reinstall using the recovery cd I received with the system (8200) I was given an error that I was unable to use the reinstallation disk due to the operating system in my machine being newer than the reinstallation disk, I am assuming that is because of the upgrade to svc pack 2. I then attempted to use an installation disk I have for xp home that I just received with my new system. I decided to abandon the installation when I was provided with the option to delete the partitions (there were 2, one of I am assuming dell files approx 32 mg, and the other stated it was the c drive)
In any case, I aborted the installation and now everytime the machine boots up it asks if I want to install the operating system or continue, then I have to select with the arrow key (within a short time period of time or it reboots) and choose that I don't want to continue to install the operating system.
My question here is, can I easily deal with this by just getting the machine to boot normally somehow and if so how, and if that works out, is there a way to remove the user that caused the problem in the first place.
Or can you provide me with a solution to reinstall the operating system, home or pro does not really matter to much for this system. I also would like to know how am I suppose to use the originall installation disk of xp pro if the computer won't allow it as mentioned above?
Thanks
Donna

There are numerous istes avilable thru a Google search to tell you how to slipstream SP2 into a new image along with your old XP disc. Either way, you going to have to wipe the drive clean, just make sure you back up your data first and then you can creat a new partition when you install the new image on the hard drive.
