8920 XPS black screen issues
I have a one year old 8920 XPS. I have dual monitors (Dell UP2414Q and Dell P2415Q) connected via the display ports, and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5. When I turn my computer on, often times my main monitor (UP2414Q) acts like it is in standby or sleep mode and fails to turn on properly. I usually just see the black screen. I turn the monitor on and off, which sometimes does the trick. More often I have to restart. Usually this happens 4/5 times I turn my computer on or restart it. Also, while I'm using my computer, it regularly goes into a black screen (the display port icon will show up on the UP2414Q in the top right corner), and then it will usually come back on in 2-20 seconds. Sometimes it will display a message, such as referring to standby mode. Sometimes when I turn my computer on, like today, neither monitor loaded properly and I just had a black screen on both of them, forcing me to restart. I have run all of the diagnostic tests (including on the graphics card) and they say everything is working fine. All of my drivers are up to date. I've reset the settings too and still have the same issues. Please help.

I'm assuming Windows-10.
I suggest you minimize the config and find a set of something that works. Keep track of what ports, cables, monitors work and where.
My first objective would be one monitor connected and working properly. Don't move forward until you get that working.

The latest driver is not always the best for older cards.
I've found that for the GTX-1060/GTX-1070 this one is solid:
Upgraded Nvidia drivers to much newer (but not latest) Fall-2018 WHQL.
Version: 399.24 - WHQL
Release Date: Mon Sep 10, 2018
Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit
Language: English (US)
File Size: 497.45 MB
Windows: Scale = 100% , 2560x1440 (Native) ... both "Recommended".
Nvidia Control Panel: Let 3D Apps Decide / PhysX = Auto (should auto-select GTX-1070)
Installing Nvidia Graphics Driver v399.24 WHQL (No GeForce Experience or 3D-Vision ... keep it lean)
Select Custom
Selected only Graphics Driver, HD Audio Driver, and PhysX Driver.
Select option for Clean Install
Rebooted computer when finished
Nvidia Control Panel says v399.24 is installed
- Left it set on "Let the 3D Applications Decide" for now (about as generic as you can get)
- Left PhysX Processor on Auto-Select (since it said Recommended). It correctly shows that "GTX-1070" is being used.
- Hide Tray-Icon and Context Menu options
