How To Use Windows 10 Recovery Media

Question

I have a Dell XPS 8900 computer that I used a Windows 10 recovery media for windows 10 product. It has the following number on the memory stick bag "US-055YG7-74287-5A7-000F-A00 DP/N 055YG7.

I used this a while ago upgrade my Win 7Pro to Win 10 Pro.

Today I am getting a Windows Stop Code 0xc000021a during boot and it stops.

Some people are saying that it due to the Registry files being corrupted or something like that.

Could I use the same memory stick and so a startup from that memory stick. I believe the system should boot from the memory stick. My question is there a repair option on the memory stick for repairing my Win 10 Pro and it will re-install a fresh copy of it??

Will it keep all of my data and application along too???

Most important, do you thing this will remove the Windows Stop Code error???

Another question, if I was able to boot in safe mode, would an earlier version of the Win in the recovery from a while earlier will take care of the problem???

You're probably better off creating a new Win 10 recovery USB with the latest version of Win 10 because the one you have is likely outdated. Connect the bootable USB with the Win 10 ISO file to the PC before powering on. Power on and immediately press F12 and look for the option to boot from the USB stick.

When the process is running look carefully on the 'Ready to install' screen and make sure you click Change what to keep and select: Keep Windows Settings, personal files and apps

I advise using a Linux Live USB such as Fedora to backup all important data onto an external HDD:

Then running the Dell F12 preboot diagnostics:

Once this is done create up to date Windows 10 Version 1709 Installation Media (Windows 10 Version 1803 Installation Media will likely be available soon) and clean install:

Hi [Diamon]:

I finally created the win 10 version 1709 installation media and I tried installing it.

I got to the point where the installation ask which partition do you which to install windows on. I selected the Drive 0 partition 3 (which is primary). It turns out all of the Drive 0 gave errors.

The error I got is:

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style

I am fully backup to Feb 22, 2018 and I have all of the data and application disk to re-install if necessary.

So a clean boot would be OK, the only thing I would really like to save is my Outlook.pst file

My system is a Dell 8900 with win 7 Pro and I updated back in 2015 to win 10 Pro using the dell media (P/N 55YG7-A00). I had not problem updating it, but now I have all kinds of issues like GPT partition style.

I would appreciate any help you can offer!!!!
