Correction.  Exact model is XPS 8930.

Desktop is working perfectly with sound card. Had issues with my 5.1 sound system not working properly. Updating BIOS no help. Added Soundblaster now perfect.  However Dell main board wiring now not connected to mic and headphone frontpanel. Sounblaster takes that function. The cable must provide signal to main bd which now missing gives false error on startup. Would like to get info to build cable to make Dell main bd happy or software (BIOS?) fix to get Dell to ignore error.

Thanks

Sorry.  My exact model number is XPS8900.  A Costco special purchased Dec 2019.

Your original sound problem may be because the Waves MaxxAudio Pro software that Dell installed on the XPS 8930 for audio management isn't configured properly for your setup. Quite a few users have issues with Waves using 5.1 sound until it's configured correctly.

From other threads about that error code, there doesn't seem to be any way to stop it as long as the front cable isn't connected correctly.  So if you're willing to remove the SoundBlaster and reconnect the front cable, which should stop the error messages, you can try configuring Waves to work properly with your 5.1 sound setup.

This thread is about the XPS 8940, but my post on 6-26-21 about configuring Waves MaxxAudio Pro applies to the XPS 8930 too.

Your PC, your decision...

Problem was that I would re-configure Waves and 5.1 sound would work for awhile. Next time I turned on computer lost 5.1 sound again.   Finally got disgusted.

Put in Audigy sound card and all has been beautiful.  Except for annoying start-up error msg.  One click and it's gone but annoying just the same.  Hoping someone could give me pin-outs and connector specs and I would wire it up to give Dell error check the signal it needs to be happy.

@wpalm    Did you save the Waves configuration after you customized it for your 5.1 setup? If not, Waves reverts to one of its pre-set configs, which -obviously- won't work.

On the Waves control panel Playback screen, there's a teeny disk icon next to the trashcan icon, on lower right side of screen to save a config. Give it a new file name and don't reuse one of the existing pre-set config names because that can cause problems.

The last "Preset" loaded on the Playback screen will be the default config every time you reboot the PC.
