Premature Keyboard Key Label Wear
My XPS 8900 came 10 months ago with a USB keyboard labeled on the back “CN-ORKRON-71616-689-1ZVB-A03 Made in China DP/N ORKRON Mfg. Date Aug. 2016.”
The labels on two of the individual keys are no longer readable, and three others are showing signs of wear.
I have never had this happen on a keyboard before, even after many years of use. I started using computer keyboards in the 1970's. Now that I am retired, I use my keyboard less than frequently than previously. Dell has declined to replace the keyboard, or individual keys, under the first-year warranty, stating that the problem is “cosmetic.”
My position is that unintelligible labels may not be a problem for touch typists, but it surely is for those who "hunt and peck" at the keyboard.
Have others had premature keyboard key label wear? If so, what has been your experience with having the problem covered under warranty?

Thanks for posting. Apologies that your system is not performing as you expected.
Unfortunately normal wear and tear parts are not covered under the limited hardware warranty that came with your computer. Much like the wiper blades, upholstery, or tires on a car, the manufacturer does not cover those.
Hopefully you can locate another keyboard if you need assistance, Dell Spare Parts, or Discount Electronics may have something suitable.

Any desktop keyboard can be cheaply and easily replaced. All keyboards for desktop computers are plug and play and have nothing to do with your model computer. Buy a new one anywhere for $15 or so and keep the old one as a backup. Or upgrade to a fancier model.

I assume cheap keyboard replacements would also be subject to premature key label wear, and probably not have key action as good as the one Dell supplied.
Among the several desktop computers I have used during the past 45 years, three were XPS models that I purchased from Dell. I have also used models from HP, Gateway, Sony, and ZT among others. Although I have replaced many windshield wiper blades and car tires during that period, none of the labels on the keyboards I have used up to now have worn off after much longer periods of use, let alone within 10 months.
Either I received a keyboard with a manufacturing defect, or Dell has reduced the quality of its XPS product line, which have always sold at prices well above the bottom of the desktop market.
Part of my concern is our increasing trend toward a through-away society. Not only is it wasteful of the earth’s resources to manufacturing a short-use good; China recently announced that it soon will limit or end the huge quantity of US solid waste that it has been accepting up to now.
