SD Card Slot Technical Issues? Who knows?

What a mystery! The card slot seems to work intermittently, or is it the software I am running to import images? I need support from Dell but, so far, it would be easier to find water in the desert. I received two friendly emails from a Small Business Adviser with Dell Technologies offering technical and sales support. So I responded. Ultimately, I was advised to upgrade my warranty and they could send me a replacement SD Card Slot at no charge. No troubleshooting, no technical support. But my three month old computer came with "Dell Limited Hardware Warranty Initial Year" and "Onsite/In-House Service After Remote Diagnosis." How do I initiate that remote diagnosis?

I am a seasoned computer user, but not an insider. It is frustrating!

We're not mind readers so you'll have to tell us what PC model you have and what version of Windows is running. @Dell-RonnieR knows because you provided your Service Tag to Dell Cares. (Don't post your Service Tag here!)

He has the XPS 8930 which has the front SD card slot. It is part of the top I/O module. DELL-Chris M

SD card readers are USB devices so if it's working intermittently, it's possible Windows is just turning it off to save power.

Open Device Manager and expand the list under USB. Double-click a USB root hub and click its Power Management tab. UNcheck the box "Allow PC to turn off...". Repeat for all root hubs.

Now expand list under Human Interface Devices in Device Manager and uncheck that same box for any HID entry that has a Power Management tab. Exit Device Manager when done.

Next, open the Windows Power options screen and identify the active Power plan. Click the link to change its settings and on next screen click link for Additional Options (assuming Win 10). On that screen, disable Hibernation, disable Hybrid Sleep, disable USB Selective Suspend, and disable PCI Express Link State Management. Save the changes to the power plan and reboot.

Does that solve the problem?
