@MichaelMancini Although the Setup and Specification stated up to 4 TB for a hard drive (which includes SATA SSDs) and 1 TB for an NVMe SSD, I am pretty sure a 2 TB M.2 NVMe SSD would work. See this thread: https://www.dell.com/community/XPS-Desktops/XPS-8930-2TB-NVMe-upgrade/m-p/7416116#M28675

Regarding performance, the M.2 slot is NVMe PCIe 3.0 x2 according to the specs (for Intel Optane memory) so the speed is 1000 MB/s. SATA 3.0 speed is 600 MB/s.

Max size has to do with how much money you have in your wallet.

Dell only offers specific models but you do not have to only purchase upgrades from Dell.

Large units are very expensive.

@MichaelMancini  They probably just told you what Dell validated for this model. And you don't have to buy from Dell...

You can easily put a 2T NVME SSD in the XPS 8930. There are several brands that should be fully compatible. Compare cost/GB, read/write speeds, warranty, reviews etc.

An M.2 NVME SSD can be ~5-6x faster than a SATA SSD. So why go with a SATA SSD?

If you currently have a HDD in this PC, have you moved the Win 10 default folders and your personal files onto that HDD? Many apps can actually be installed on the HDD even though Win 10 is on the SSD. So you can also consider uninstalling some apps and then reinstalling them, but this time direct their installations onto the HDD.

At the least, configure your apps to save their data files on the HDD. Email mailboxes, browser settings/bookmarks etc can take up lots of space so redirect them onto the HDD.

Moving those apps and files to the HDD might free up enough space on the SSD, at least for a while....

EDIT: @Vic384 typed faster than I did, again...

I did add another drive and re-installed programs that had the option to pick the install location. The problem is I am using a bunch of pro audio programs with a ton of plugins that must be installed on the C: drive or they won't work. I might need to sacrifice the speed I would get with a NMe to get more disk space with a 4TB SATA SSD.

@MichaelMancini  - There are 4T M.2 NMVE SSDs from various manufacturers, but the prices are really up there..!
