The Studio XPS 8100 is nine years old. Replace the 3v CR 2032 CMOS battery (page 14). Then retest.

Blinking Amber = System fails to complete POST. Remove and reseat every internal card and cable. Then retest.

Thank you Chris I also suspected it was CMOS error, I saw this discussion and was at first worried because switching the CMOS battery alone was not working, so I reseated memory modules and unplugged and reconnected cables to hard drive etc and that worked!

Four beeps can also mean RAM on the video card, rather than RAM on the motherboard itself.

So reseat the video card in it's slot. And if that doesn't help, physically remove the add-in video card and see if using the onboard HDMI port helps. (Onboard video ports are disabled when an add-in card is installed.)

Or if you have a spare video card, swap the spare one into the XPS 8100 and see if that helps...
