USB Boot on Dell XPS9000

I have a Dell XPS9000 which I purchased in 2010.  In the boot options there are only two.... HD or CD/DVD.  I've seen reference in the community to the same system utilizing USB which is what I would like to do so I'm assuming I need a BIOS update or something.  Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Typically you have to connect the bootable USB stick to the PC before you power on. Then power on and immediately press F12 to see the boot options which should now include USB.

I'll give that a try... Thank you for the suggestion...   I'm just not sure how it is checking there for a bootable disk ... I'll give it a try and report back ..
