XPS 420, upgrades
Hi! I have a 2007 Dell XPS 420, and I was looking to upgrade it to more modern parts. seeing it would be cheaper then building/buying another. I was looking to upgrade the CPU,GPU, And PSU. on top of updating to windows 10. I am looking at a evga 500W PSU and was wondering if that would be too much on the computer? And if it isn't, how much higher could I go before blowing it up?

It is not practical to upgrade an 11 yr old model. My xps 420 runs windows 10 fine although it is using windows 10 drivers and doesn't get much use since it has been replaced with a new computer. It is a good backup. Put the money towards a new computer.

Newer models will Be a better choice.

Windows 10 pro alone is $200 so this unit can be upgraded many times faster than what you have now and 2x the speed and ram etc.

that is not how power works.
the PSU watts is what it can do max.
a typical PS uses say 25 watts at near idle in w10 desktop, hands in pocket.
ok Volts time X Amps = watts. (power)
if you add things to the PC the watts used go up, for sure GPU cards, (many or most, or for sure gaming)
are you asking how to game a 12 year old PC, what would be the purpose of dumping huge cash on near zero value old PC, in fact the 4 things stated, adds up to more $$$ than a good faster better used PC.
even T3600 or 3610 is far better. (2014) 7 years newer (or 3020)
it uses core2 old processor why use that? with x38
buy a good used PC, they are in GLUT status now, endless good very good PC used cheap, with REAL CORE processors.i3 up.
not sure what you use this for, typing in notepad or dream of running $60 AAA games,
