XPS 630, does not start after memory upgrade
So my XPS 630 was working fine. Running windows 10 64 bit. I decided to upgrade my memory from 4GB to 8GM but after I replaced the memory, the computer does not start. No sounds at all. There is an LED on the board that is lit but that is it. Occasionally, when I push the switch on, a little fan above the processor starts for a split second but then dies. I tried to go back to the original memory cards but nothing happens.
Reading the manual, it seems that I need to install slot 1 first, then 3, followed by 2 and 4. Trying the original memory cards now, I tried each card in just slot 1, then slot 1 and 3 in various combinations. Still nothing.
Any ideas what to try next?

Memory can be finicky. You need to have all the same memory (same brand/type). Mixing memory usually results in problems. From your description, none of the memory works now, the original or added. And when you do get it working you need to have a 64 bit OS for memory above 4GB too be recognized and used.
Install the original (only) in the original memory slots then reset the CMOS memory and see if the original memory still works. Page 87 in the Dell manual details how to clear the CMOS Memory.

Finally memory type. Dell's have a history of memory compatibility with non-Dell brands. For this reason we suggest Crucial Memory as it is one brand that is guaranteed to work in a Dell. And as mentioned it needs to be all the same brand/type.
