XPS 8500, BIOS A13, Windows 10 doesn't see HDD

I downloaded and installed Bios version A13 from Bios version A12 on my XPS 8500. Now Windows 10 does not detect my 2TB hard drive. But the XPS 8500 Bios does recognize the 2TB hard drive. Has anyone else had the same problem? Any suggestions would be helpful except formatting too much data on the drive.

Windows 10 was never tested/validated on the 2012 XPS 8500. Thus, any BIOS update/fixes would not have had Windows 10 in mind when we wrote the BIOS update for that model. You could try going back to BIOS A12 via a bootable USB drive key.

Run the BIOS update utility from DOS environment if UEFI Boot Mode (Non-Windows users)
NOTE: You will need to provide a bootable DOS USB key. This executable file does not create the DOS system files.
1. Copy the downloaded file to a bootable DOS USB key
2. Power on the system, then go to BIOS Setup by pressing F2 and go to Boot > Boot Mode option
3. Change UEFI to Legacy Boot Mode
4. Go to Exit > Save Changes and restart system
5. Press F12, then Select USB Storage Drive and Boot to DOS prompt
6. Run the file by typing copied file name where the executable is located
7. After BIOS update finished, system will auto reboot to take effect
7. Go to BIOS Setup by pressing F2 key
8. Change the Legacy to UEFI from F2 > Boot > Boot Mode
9. Go to Exit > Save Changes and restart system to go back original UEFI Boot Mode

I too have a problem with Windows recognizing the HDD.  BIOS is V14.

Is it possible to roll back two versions?  I'm not sure the BIOS is the problem since I think BIOS was updated last March 2018 and this problem only started a week ago.

Thank you.

Thank you for your message. Do you mean the HDD is not getting detected in Windows but is getting detected in BIOS?

Yes, you can roll back 2 version. Although this is not necessary as the BIOS has been working fine with the latest updated.

A simple Windows Restart may resolve this (Start menu in lower-left part of screen, Power icon, Restart). This clears Windows Fast Startup cache (shutting down and powering up does NOT clear the Fast Startup cache). Hopefully this will cause Windows to scan hardware again and find the drive.

If you press F12 on boot, can you boot the drive once?

Same with XPS-8300, yet Windows-10 64bit runs fine on it for me.

Advanced Format Drives Require SATA OPERATION to be set to ATA or YOU MUST USE F6 mass storage drivers.

Secure Boot should be OFF and Legacy Option roms ON with CSM.

Windows 7 drivers work but must be the x64 or x86 version depending on which version of windows 10 is being installed.

Highly suggest OP try this. I had an HDD disappear on my 8500 last night after an AMD GPU driver update; simple reboot fixed the issue.
