The mini 1050 Ti will work on the XPS 8500 460w PSU (power supply unit). The issue is most newer video cards will only operate in a UEFI system. The 2012 XPS 8500 most likely shipped in Legacy Boot Mode state. So you are looking at changing the BIOS from Legacy to UEFI, reformatting the HDD and reinstalling the operating system. Hopefully the Rockstars can chime in with their thoughts.

I put an EVGA Nvidia GeForce 1060 6GB in my Studio XPS 8000 and it works fine. Been gaming with it for months (stock 350w PSU as well). The Studio XPS 8000 only has legacy bios, no UEFI at all. Can't say what that means for the XPS 8500 exactly but there you go.

Curious, did that EVGA Nvidia GeForce 1060 ship with the BIOS (Legacy/UEFI) switch on it? If yes, I wonder if if it shipped set to Legacy.

No idea about a switch, I just put it in and it worked. Funny thing is I only became aware in retrospect that the legacy / UEFI bios with modern cards was even a thing (had I known I might not have ordered the card). Also, there are a fair few other reports of this card working with legacy bios systems if you google it so I'm not the only one with an EVGA 1060 in a legacy bios system...
