XPS 8500, restore backup to install on SSD or clean install

My HD keeps crashing so I got a new SSD and wondered if I should just download the image for the Windows 10 from Microsoft or use the backup and restore USB I created with my XPS 8500 which was probably Windows 8?  Do I miss out on anything if I don’t use the backup restore USB?

You did not indicate what you are running now but I will assume it is Windows 10. I would disconnect the HDD and do a clean install to the SSD. Then if everything is working I would re-connect the HDD and make sure it is still booting from the SSD and copy your data off the HDD. Of course with a clean install you will have to re-install all your applications.

As far as missing out on anything if you don't use the backup restore USB, I can't think of anything based my assumption that you are on Windows 10 now.
