XPS 8700, BIOS, bad command line parameter message
I'm having the exact same issue with that "bad command line parameter message" with the same results as you, except my update is for the XPS 8700. When I try to download the BIOS driver update from the Dell Support website, it says "download in progress" but it doesn't download, just sits at 0, saying 0 of 1 downloading.

* What BIOS is currently installed?
* Have you downloaded the A11 BIOS file on a different computer, then moved it over to the XPS 8700 and ran it?
* What technical issues are you currently having on the XPS 8700?
* The A11 does not list any "fixes". The A11 BIOS itself states =
Fixes - Not Applicable

There is a BIOS version A12 available now for the XPS 8700 and I was able to download it from here with no issues, using IE11. So maybe you should try using a different browser...?
I don't have an XPS 8700, so -obviously- I didn't attempt to run the update.

Same problem here... I didn't download anything deliberately (no browser used, etc), but apparently my machine did it automatically. I just got a message of an "important update from Dell"; Dell XPS 8700 System BIOS A10, and when I click install, I get the "bad command line parameter" error. Dell Support Assist shows that it is installing, but isn't actually doing anything. If I click "okay", I get a message that it installed successfully, but then a few days later I get the same update message, repeat process/results...

Have you checked to see if A10 is actually running now and this is just a "false alarm" from Support Assist?
And BIOS A12 is available now. So maybe you should update manually to that one from the link in my previous post, which might stop SA from nagging you...

Thanks RoHe, that did the trick, and after weeks of trying to download the file and deal with Dell's support (non-existent)...
