XPS 8700, secure boot disable, without integrated GPU
Hi guys,
I need to reset BIOS and disable secure boot on XPS 8700 since the POST isn't going on (no video, but power button is white, an amber led on the motherboard, etc.), but there is no integrated video on board. I have several video cards, and one of them has a VGA port. Is that worth to try to put it instead of Ti660 ?
I tried to reset CMOS taking out a battery, and playing with the RTS jumper, no luck so far, ust num lock led is flashing ...
Any thoughts ?
Stay safe and well,

8700 has integrated video on board: • one DisplayPort • one HDMI port
you need to remove dedicated graphic card to use integrated video port.

Before doing anything else--Replace the cmos battery with a new one. A weak or bad battery prevents booting into windows. It's a ~$2 CR 2032 available at any store that sells batteries.

Hi,
thank you for your clarification re on-board video.
Now another question - I have read in one thread about 8700, that CMOS reset should be done via both battery and jumper, and during this process system shoud be switched off, but have a power from the wall.
"I figured it out. In the process of clearing out the CMOS settings, I found the crucial nugget of information that you have to have the computer plugged into the wall when you do the jumper change in order for the CMOS to be cleared out. The CMOS battery isn't enough to do this apparently so it wasn't working. After plugging it in and doing it, it worked."
Can you please explain for me, what is the procedure of clearance in this case - battery first / power off, then power on /jumper ?
Stay safe and well.

IMO that is a very dangerous procedure to reset jumper with system power on. I would never do that no matter what the other person said.
always unplug power, drain residual power by pressing power button, ground your fingers on metal chassis, then you may remove CMOs battery and/or reset CMOs jumper.

Hi guys,
it's finally sorted out, DIMMs re-ordering finally helped out along with the complete power cables re-seat including motherboard's connectors.
BTW - in my desktop both HDMI and DP ports were shielded by the plastic blocks, therefore I was needed to push them out from the chassis inside. I have used a HDMI-DVI connector for my old 19" monitor.
I use mSata 256G SSD drive for boot and OS, while 1TB main SATA drive is for my data. I have BIOS A14 recently upgraded, and such upgrade caused this inconvenience.
Thank you for your support !
Stay safe and well !
