XPS 8900, GPU drivers breaking computer

The purchased 1 year warranty on this XPS 8900 expired on December 10, 2016. The main problem is when trying to use multiple monitors the XPS 8900 can't pick up the other monitor in the settings, but the monitor is still receiving a signal from the XPS 8900 as it's a different shade of black that is on the screen. So I'm left with one monitor having a constant black screen. I have troubleshot this myself for hours attempting to locate the problem and I have found that the graphics drivers on my computer aren't allowing the connection as there is a problem with them. Both monitors are connected via HDMI cables.

My troubleshooting:

  • Restarted my computer
  • Shut it down
  • Shut it down via plug
  • Switched HDMI cables
  • Re-installed related drivers
  • Troubleshooting software

And still no fix. But when looking at my graphics drives I found this there is an issue with the display adapter drivers. But reinstalling them changed nothing until I reinstalled the monitor driver this fixed both monitors for a split second, then left me with a frozen black screen with a frozen loading cursor on the screen.

I'm still trying to fix this problem, and possible solutions would be welcomed as the broken display adapter drivers are causing the overall performance of the computer to suffer.7346f8fee4202842196b1bafd1f5deb3.png

@ZacThomas18 It would probably help to know the model information of your monitors and that of your graphics card.

Have you tried redownloading your drivers for the intel graphics?

I would imagine the Intel drivers are the issue as they should be in charge of managing the monitors.

I would try a simple reinstall of the Intel graphics and see if that helps then go through the settings before reinstalling the Nvidia drivers.

Your other option would be to download DDU and run it to delete all drivers and reinstall Intel first then Nvidia drivers for the GTX 745, I would try a simple reinstall of the Intel graphics and see if that helps then go through the settings before reinstalling the Nvidia drivers.

@ZacThomas18  - Two questions:

  1. Did you look in BIOS setup to see if there's an Intel Multi-Display (aka: Intel Multi-Monitor) option? (The online XPS 8900 docs don't list BIOS options.) If that option is offered, it must be enabled (disabled by default) in order to use an onboard Intel HD Graphics port when an add-in video card is installed.  And at least one monitor has to be connected to the add-in video card before you enable and use an onboard port.
  2. Why not just connect both monitors to the onboard video card? You might need an adapter (eg, DP(video card)>HDMI(monitor) if your second monitor doesn't natively support any of the available ports on the video card.

Remove the other card,  Download the The Intel® Driver & Support Assistant.

XPS 8900   Intel Core i5-6400 processor,

Unfortunately there is a problem with bios and drivers and possibly malware.

Intel Multi display may need to be disabled or enabled.

Reinstall clean for windows and letting windows find those drivers will resolve this,

8900 integrated gpu has hdmi + display port from Intel HDgraphics 530. It is already capable of supporting dual monitor. You do not need the discrete GTX 745 which is an old card.  Try uninstall the video card, then do a fresh clean install of Windows 10.  This will give you a clean slate if much user software tweaking has been done already.
