XPS 8930, Windows 10 Fax & Scan
I have a Dell XPS 8930. I brought up Windows Fax & Scan. It said it couldn't find a modem. I messed around with the settings and finally it said that Windows Fax & Scan is all ready to go. I opened up New Fax - which wouldn't even come up before - and plugged in fax # etc. It wouldn't do anything. When I looked at the status - it said 'pending'. How can I get this to work.
Also, Windows Fax & Scan says it can't find a scanner. I got Hamrick VueScan last year - for a year, and it can find the scanner and actually works. What's the deal here?

@Yod123 Do you have a fax server or a modem? If you have a fax server, have you click on the Tools tab, then clicked on Fax Accounts, and set up that account? If you have a modem, have you click on the Tools tab, then clicked on Fax Settings, and set up the modem?
Did you add the scanner to Windows 10 by going to All settings / Devices / Printers & scanners and then clicking on 'Add a printer or scanner'?

I'm online with the same machine now. I thought this would be enough. I have a United Robotics 14.4 fax/modem that I got 25 years ago. Would that work?

You have to go into windows features and put back multiple components including legacy and fax and scan and windows lpr printing and windows PDF filter TIFF Filter and and and and and. Microsoft print to pdf is also helpful.
25 year old modem wont work
for offices that still need this i recommend
https://www.amazon.com/Zoom-Model-3095-USB-Modem/dp/B07HHKG6HR
or
https://www.amazon.com/Robotics-USR5637-Controller-Dial-Up-External/dp/B0013FDLM0
and
HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw

Why TIFF thats the file format that windows transmits via modem for a FAX.
There are four ways to fax a TIFF file:
https://wiki.rit.edu/display/CISHelp/Windows+10+Printer+Setup#
Go to Control Panel via Start.
Switch the Control Panel view to Category View.
Click on Programs.
From Programs and Features, Turn Windows features on or off.
From the Windows Features dialog box that appears, locate Windows TIFF IFilter from the list and enable it by click on the checkbox and then click on OK.
Windows will search online for the required files.
Then, it will apply the necessary changes.
Finally, you will be prompted to Restart your system so that the changes made will reflect.

Thanks! I went and got Trendnet 56k usb phone/internet fax modem. I installed a driver from an included cd - even though it was for Windows 7. When I bring up Windows Fax & Scan, input info and hit Send, the Data and Link leds on the dongle flash, but it says it can't send it because of "an unexpected error".
