A 1T HDD is likely SATA 3, so it will work in the XPS 8930. You might need a right-angle SATA data cable to connect to the motherboard, but not certain about that...
If the 1T HDD has Windows on it, you probably should remove it. The easiest way would be to re-iniitialize the drive using DiskPart (part of Windows), but you'll lose everything on the drive so personal files need to be backed up elsewhere.
If there's nothing on the drive that needs to be saved (or everything already backed up elsewhere), you can just re-initialize it to remove the OS files.
@Ronnie Ward Like @RoHe wrote you can move a standard SATA hard drive to another PC. The Inspiron 580 uses standard 3.5" SATA hard drives. If the drive you want to move was a boot drive you will have to re-initialize it to use as extra storage. Make sure after you install the hard drive that you boot using F12 and from the Boot Menu select and boot from the XPS 8930's boot drive. Be careful and make sure you are re-initializing the correct hard drive.
I had the wrong inspiron number listed, i want to add the 1 TB hard drive from a Inspiron 580 to an XPS 8930. It would be just extra storage and i would not have to wipe the hard drive

Yes, a standard SATA HDD can be moved to another PC, but not as the boot drive unless you (re)install Windows on it once it's in its new home.
