I am confused about the latency number in the chart you linked to. The chart here, https://www.memorybenchmark.net/latency_ddr4_intel.html, shows the same RAM with a latency of 25 ns.

I would look at crucial.com. They guarantee compatibility. For example, the Crucial CT8G4DFS8266 (8 GB) or CT2K8G4DFS8266 (2 x 8 GB kit)looks like it would meet your requirements.

Thank you! It does look like that would work. It says "Speed: 2666 MT/S". Can I assume that is the SPD speed?

https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct2k8g4dfs8266

The Crucial site confuses me because then I look at this one and it says "Speed: 3000 MT/S." And in product highlights it says "Speeds start at 2400 MT/s". So which is the default that the XPS 8930 would pick since it only supports 2666?

I think with Crucial if they say 2666 MT/s you can assume it is the SPD speed information stored in the EEPROM chip on the SDRAM is 2666.

I agree it is a bit confusing but I think the statement "Speeds start at 2400 MT/s" refers to the Crucial Ballistix  Sport LT product line and not the specific product you linked to.

By searching this great forum I've come to understand that the BIOS does not support changing the memory speed (no support for XMP) and so you need to purchase memory with a default (SPD) of 2666 Mhz to achieve maximum performance.

Most of the DDR4 memory I've found has an SPD speed of 2133MHz, its kind of a pain to go to the manufacturer site and look it up but I've looked up quite a few.

Has anyone managed to find any decent low latency memory with a default SPD speed of 2666 Mhz and tested it in an 8930?

Thank you!

It's really not that complicated if you do a little research and Crucial is not the only one selling good memory...….by far.

I'm running an 8930 with 32gb of 2666mhz RAM. Got it through Crucial Memory. I'm doing multi-track audio production and I'm happy with the performance. Have you run Latency Monitor. Free. Nice utility and great analysis of what's causing latency in the system.
