XPS 8940 Special Edition - File Explorer hangs when opened and then freezes into white screen!
Been experiencing this from day one since receiving the unit. I set up the system with two users, the problem mostly stems from my end. It started with the PC taking a long time to log off with the spinning blue circle, averaging about 3-5 minutes! I then traced the problem to the File Explorer - the 'My Computer' or 'Network' icons. Whenever I click on 'My Computer' to view my c: drive, or a connected USB, it would show the drive contents but will quickly refresh itself and everything disappears leaving me hanging. If I attempt to close and open it back up again it would freeze. File Explorer showed in Task Manager running but (not responding) and further freezes more leaving the system hanging. This also happens when opening the 'Network' icon to share files but all the network shared drives also disappeared with the spinning circle trying to retrieve. At this point anything I do would just freeze. Only way out is to do a forced shutdown by press/holding down the power button until it shuts off.
So far I've:
re-seated the nVidia graphics card,
re-seated the two RAM cards,
deleted 2007 MS Office Enterprise, no luck, then reinstalled
removed McAfee, still no luck.
All drivers and BIOS/Firmware is up to date!
What can be the problem be?
Thinking about wiping out and doing a clean install, but my last resort!
My configuration:
11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11700K processor (8-Core, 16M Cache, 3.6GHz to 5.0GHz)
16GB, 8Gx2, DDR4, 2933MHz
512GB PCIe M.2 SSD +1TB SATA 7200 RPM HDD
NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GTX 1660 Ti 6GB GDDR6
Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650i (2x2) and Bluetooth 5.1 Driver
Killer(TM) Wi-Fi 6 AX1650i (2x2) 802.11ax Wireless and Bluetooth 5.1
BDRE Drive (Reads and Writes to Blu-Ray disks)
Using provided Dell Keyboard & Mouse (USB 2.0 connected to back)
Epson Artisan 810 All-In-One printer (Wi-Fi connection)

I would suspect something corrupt in Windows. But to eliminate any hardware, press F12 at power on and run the hardware tests. If nothing shows up I would do a factory reinstall. Not often but I've seen cases of a bad factory disc image that the reinstall fixes.

"2007 MS Office Enterprise" isn't compatible with windows 10
This software is End of Life End of Support from Dell AND Microsoft.

I might just go that route as nothing works.

2007 MS Office Enterprise works fine with zero problems. I initially thought it might be the culprit and uninstall it but the problem still persists.

Every new feature update installs Office 365 and Office 20XX versions of One Note, Outlook etc. This is deliberate on microsoft's part so that you cant reinstall
Office 2007 2010 2013 2016 stand alone.
The Click 2 Run Office Starter edition that was with windows 7 also now no longer works.
They also removed the MSICUU2 utility so you cant force remove those components when you have a problem. Then to finish you off they REINSTALL those trial components with EVERY feature update. So windows update and other "services" will break you often.
This is also why they removed windows 2 go. People were counting on the fact that this version of windows doesn't do updates.
If you call microsoft or Dell they will enforce that 2007 and 2010 etc office is no longer supported. You have to do office 365 or Office 2019 now.

As mentioned, I've had this problem since day one even before the 2007 MS Office Enterprise installation. People are saying this is likely a Win 10 issue which plagues certain users/equipment depending on their configuration. If I leave File Explorer alone I can go on forever with my work, but just couldn't access my files, for example if I wanted to retrieve them from a USB drive - because it disappears as soon as I open and the spinning circle keeps going trying to look, therefore leaving my system hanging. The issue only affects my profile and not with the main user. We are both administrators with full control. Baffles me.
