You can add additional memory stick if you'd like.

It is recommended to stay with the same brand/model for all 4 sticks, but you can mix and match. Depending on the manufacturer, some sticks can be compatible and some note.

Note that adding more sticks will lower the overall DDR5 speed.

Mixed report from this forum and other field feedback says:

2 x (8,16,32) will work @ 4400 MHz

4 x 8 will work @ 4000 MHz

4 x 16 will work @ 4000 MHz

4 x 32 will work @ 3600 MHz

Combo of different size (same brand) may not work (16+32, 16+64 etc.)

Did you check the manual for supported ram configurations? It's here--

XPS 8950 Setup and Specifications (dell.com)

yes, I did....as mentioned that I hadn't seen any Dell configurations that I might hope to pursue.  But I suspect people ARE upgrading outside the Dell parameters and reaching out if there was any success.   I see folks asking about other RAM upgrades, but not specifically what I inquired about.  Thanks for the link, however.  That said, I do see that 4x16 is mentioned, while it lowers the speed down to 4000 from 4400.  Oddly, I had seen that configuration elsewhere, without affectng the speed.

Those listed configurations are just what was vigorously tested/validated by Dell, it doesn't mean what other configurations won't work. As far as I understand - memory controller (-s since there are two with Intel 12th Gen CPU) is integrated into Intel CPU and interfaces with RAM modules directly, all Dell can do is sending some managing signals to CPU for controller' configuration, therefore balance is more about configurations supported by Intel than Dell (in 4x8GB context since there are others too, like timings, voltages, etc.).

I noticed in the XPS-8950 manual, under "Memory Specifications" (table 5), that a 4 x 8 GB configuration is not listed as being supported. Does anyone have any thoughts / advice on this?

Did you have success in upgrading it with a different size ?

My understanding is for DDR5 RAM, two modules will perform better than four modules. For 64 GB, 2X32 RAM modules will provide better performance than 4X16 GB modules. I have Crucial RAM in one of my systems and it performs well.

Hope this helps.
