XPS 8950, max memory upgrade

Question

Hi there, I searched the forum but didn't see it. Per Dell service manual, if the XPS 8950 goes up to 128GB RAM, the supported configuration of DDR5 memory speed drops to 3600MHz. My question is, can I use 4800MHz Rams? Thanks

Yes. All the memory shipped with the 8950 is 4800MHz, but like you pointed out, it will only run at 3600MHz when using four 32Gb sticks. I would consider getting the RAM from Crucial.

@jozmedia I am happy you got that configuration to work. That configuration is not listed in the Setup and Specifications so it is most likely not a Dell tested configuration.

Hi, yes, it works. Albeit you need to plug the memory modules in a peculiar order, I forgot which way, but it's not the usual paired configuration.

Which is correct, the PDF you pointed us or the description on the website?

Try changing the language from the pull-down menu, Print, PDF, and "English" on this page. (not the menu at the top of the page)

I haven't checked all of them, but the non-English pages and PDFs have an XPS8950 with memory running at 4800MHz.

Is this just a mistake on the Dell site?
