XPS 8950, more RAM questions
My new XPS 8950 i9 with 2x16GB RAM is used for heavy audio recording and Vegas Pro19 and DaVinci Resolve 18 for video editing. I am also using an RTX 3060 Ti for the GPU.
I would like to add another 32GB (2×16GB), but understand the RAM speed will drop. Would the increased RAM override the loss in speed in most cases? Or typically with the software mentioned above?

@mixmkr I think the increase in the amount of RAM will, in most cases, override the loss in speed. If you assume your applications and data are limited by the amount of RAM then there will be swapping to your HDD or SSD, both of which are going to be much slower and take more time than the loss of RAM speed.

Yes...it is verified running at 4400mhz with the 2 x 16 gig sticks.
As you can see below, the "expected" and supported speed would drop to 4000mhz with 4 x 16 sticks of RAM.
Just the addition of using all available 4 slots seems to be a factor in dropping the RAM speed, hence my question in the 1st post.

● 16 GB, 1 x 16 GB, DDR5, 4400 MHz

● 64 GB, 2 x 32 GB, dual-channel DDR5, 4400 MHz
● 128 GB, 4 x 32 GB, dual-channel DDR5, 3600 MHz

The RAM always runs at the speed of the slowest RAM installed. Since you have 2 x 16GB of RAM it is probably running at 4400MHz. If you install anything faster it will run at 4400 and 4400 is the fastest that the 8950 is compatible with per the specs.

You are correct and I missed that..it happens more than I care to admit. But the difference between 4000 and 4400 is very slim and the average user would not notice any change in the operational speed of their system. This page at LinusTechTips may help.
