XPS 8950, two 2.5" SSD, second 3.5" bay

So what is the physical trick to installing two 2.5" internal Samsung EVO SSD into the second 3.5" drive bay without the SATA III cables preventing the panel from fully closing? I could get the drives in there no problem but the cables are just to close to the panel.

This is what I used https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08VLCRQ6X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I had it from a previous Machine

I thought about recessed in the Bay but did not see how. Yes the Cables are long enough

Thanks. Yes I will tomorrow. I'm no longer at home

I just thought of something I have a Corsair Caddy inside the Dell Caddy. Everything fits fine there. Maybe I can recess the 2 drives within that Corsair Caddy

Can you post a pic of how you have it installed?

What adapter are you using to put two 2.5 ssd's in one bay? If you are using the blue Dell 3.5 caddy with the Dell adapter, you will need the proper angle on the cables. Is it possible to mount the adapter into the 3.5 caddy so that the SSD's are recessed into the drive bay?  You will also need a longer cable to reach the motherboard if you are talking about the bay at the top rear of the PC.. A piece of string is useful for measuring how long of a cable you will need.20221117_102356.jpg

You may be able to. I used the Dell 2.5 adapter and it sat fairly recessed into the Dell 3.5 caddy. I am not sure if you can see the pic I posted. Sometimes it takes the Mods a bit to approve photos.

@Planet Caravan You may have to use an adapter like this: https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Internal-Drive-Mounting-BK-HDDH/dp/B00G57BN1M/ref=sr_1_3?crid=LOSOBYSP0PHJ&keywords=sabrent%2B2.5%2Bto%2B3.5%2Bssd%2Badapter&qid=1672698407&sprefix=sabrent%2B2.5%2Bto%2B3.5%2Bssd%2Badapter%2Caps%2C57&sr=8-3&th=1

You probably should use SATA power and data cables with right-angled connectors at the SSD end. Also, you may have to modify the 2.5" to 3.5" adapter so that when the SSDs are mounted, the ends of SSDs where the connectors are located do not line up; this is so that the SATA power and data connectors of the two SSDs do not stack one on top of the other..

I just installed one SSD into my new XPS 8950.  I bought these on eBay:

You need to have the 90-degree plug on the cord attach to the drive(s).  There is ample room in the drive bay to put in two SSDs.  I secured the drive tray with twists.
