XPS One 2710, black screen

Hello. I have no clue what’s happening but my 2710 screen is black but I can hear fan sound. Initially, when I switched on, the screen stayed black and I heard sudden loud beeps so I panicked and switched off manually with the long pressing the button. When I tried to switch on later, I tried to press F12 but no response so I connected the wired keyboard and I heard the usual sound of the USB being connected to the pc. Using the wired keyboard and pressing F12 didn’t work. It has been no problem but I felt odd slight delay when I started the pc yesterday. What can I do now?

If it still beeps when powering on, count the beeps. That's an error code.

What version of Windows?

Try this for starters:

  1. Power off and unplug power cord from wall and from rear of PC
  2. Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
  3. Reconnect power cord to rear of PC
  4. Reconnect power cord directly to wall outlet last, and not through a surge protector or power strip

If that doesn't help, this PC model has an HDMI-OUT port to connect to an external monitor. If you can, connect an external HDMI monitor or HDMI TV to that port.  NOTE: This PC has both HDMI-OUT and HDMI-IN, so you have to connect the external display to the -OUT port, the HDMI port farthest from the power cord socket. See the setup guide.

Power external display on first after connecting to PC and then power PC on, and see if it boots now.

And count the beeps if any...

Many thanks. It no longer beeps but it was continuous loudest beeps. I disconnected all and pressed the button for 30 seconds as instructed but nothing. Just connected to tv through HDMI but the tv stayed black. When I switch on, I don’t hear the loading kind of sound and it is just fan sound. It’s running windows 10. What can I do next, please?

Was TV connected to the HDMI-OUT port (#18 in setup guide) and does TV have to be switched to use HDMI as the input? TV probably has an on-screen display (OSD) of its own where you can change that setting. If you have to switch TV to use HDMI, test it with the PC again.

Other things to try:
1. Reboot and press Input source select control (#8 in the guide) once and release. Wait a few sec to see if there's any response. If not press/release again, wait, and once more and wait, if no previous response. Then try press/release the Brightness controls (two buttons, #9).

If none of that helps, reboot and start tapping F12 to see if you can get the F12 menu to open. If it opens, look for option to run diagnostics and run all of them, including RAM and extended hard drive tests. Copy error messages, if any.

It's not easy to work inside an All-In-One, so if you can't get it to run, you may want to take it to a reliable PC repair shop for diagnosis and repair estimate, or you can contact Dell Out-Of-Warranty-Repair for an estimate. Might be good idea to get estimates from both. And then decide whether and where to fix this PC or put the money toward a new PC.

If you decide not to repair it, the hard drive could be removed and connected to another PC using a USB hard drive enclosure, or installed as a secondary drive in another PC to recover your files, if not already backed up elsewhere.

Thank you for your kind instruction. Followed everything you mentioned but nothing. A few things noticed were 1. After changing from computer to HDMI on the screen(bottom right) and connected to tv,  the pc screen showed “no video detected on HDMI input”. 2. After pressing wireless keyboard F12 key continuously, the fan became very loud and loads of air coming out from the top vent. Do I need to use the wired keyboard to press F12?  Many thanks.

"No video detected on HDMI input" at least means PC is able to look for an input device, and suggests the LCD screen is at least, partially, working.

Do you have an HDMI device, eg a game console or a laptop, that outputs an HDMI video signal to connect to this PC's HDMI-IN port to see what happens when you change that source button?

You only want to tap F12, not hold it down. A wireless keyboard should be ok,but it can't hurt to try a wired USB keyboard.

I just connected to PlayStation and  when I changed from computer to HDMI on the screen, the normal PlayStation starting picture showed on the pc screen. What does it mean? Many thanks.

What color is power button and steady or blinking when PC gives black screen after you boot without anything connected, except mouse and keyboard? If it blinks, count the blinks, that's an error code... If you can't see anything on the screen, you won't be to run diagnostics.

Does the PC show more than just the game box starting screen? Can you actually play a game on the PC screen and do you hear the audio from the game from the PC's speakers?

Since an HDMI signal coming from the game box works, but there's no HDMI signal to the LCD panel or TV, this may mean there's a failure in processing the HDMI video signal the motherboard/video card send to the LCD panel or TV. In that case, the only fix may be to take it to a reliable PC shop or contact Dell Out-Of-Warranty Repair. This won't be anything you can fix yourself.

BTW: Did you confirm the TV was set to display the HDMI signal from the PC?
