hi, do you have any firmware updates to solve this problem? i have an xps 13 9300 and the mapping of fn + left arrow and right arrow does not work as home and end keys. i would like to solve this
The new BIOS Update March 11, 2021 for the Inspirion 7300-series does not include the Arrow-Keys update. So that one remains an expensive household notebook, neither usable in IT development nor in accounting. (written on an HP Envy with Ctrl-Arrow keys)
BIOS Update 1.4.1 (13Apr21) does not contain the update. I slowly think the info by @ce123 from 10Feb to be an early April's Fool, as other XPS-13 users reported after that the issue is not resolved...? It's simply that Dell screws developers, accountants and others working with bigger data and needing to mark larger areas in text, tables, etc. with keystrokes instead of mouse or touch... Worsebettering is the best translation to "Verschlimmbessern" used in Germany for engineers worsening good things.
Dear @ce123 - no, I don't have an XPS, since my XPS-12 display leaked and Dell was unable to provide repairs or spare parts for a five-year old, beloved XPS-device.
But as you may have seen in the posts from @mitar and @Brunoksi it obviously did not work for their XPSs. And the Inspirion remains unsupported, so I keep sticking to my (new) HP instead. As I handle the IT for our family office, I keep an eye on those two devices. Find it fascinating how Dell shoots themselves in the knee and disqualify their "tools" for IT developers or accounting offices.
Sure you can play with a touchscreen, but to do decent work, nothing fits keyboard shortcuts. Something even junior accountants and developers quickly recognize.
Every two or three weeks I get an email from dell telling me that ...
You got kudos in the Dell Community!
because of this post. I really appreciate it, but I would like to get some feedback about it
it's been more than three years since I created the post and I'd like to know if this is even addressed a something to be eventually resolved by the dell team
Is there a ticket, issue, or something similar that I could track?
Yeah this it crazy to be honest. I contacted Dell about this and they are "not aware of this problem" Take a look at my post I got a request number and maybe if we make some noise someone would react ?

After a good while trying to find the solution I come up with a partial fix using xkb.
It maps Home/End to Left Alt + Left/Right.
Details: https://gist.github.com/mrfuxi/377427f5f935ce58175f597c179fd896
I do hope that Dell will have mercy and release the bios fix to end this madness.

For anyone interested I got official reply from Dell about this. There won't be any firmware update for us and the requested feature won't be added in future. End of story.
