Custom charging - does using ac power use the battery also?

I had an XPS 7590. I set it in Dell power manager to custom charge from 50 to 60 percent in order to conserve battery lifespan as I will be mainly using the laptop plugged in.

When the laptop is plugged in, and running off ac power, and the battery is not charging, is the laptop using the battery at all? Is it effectively as though I had removed the battery completely?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Today's batteries are not like those from years ago. Charge it fully and use it and recharge regularly. Never let it drain completely. See this for some tips-- https://www.dell.com/support/article/en-us/sln128667/dell-laptop-battery-frequently-asked-questions?lang=en

Sorry to say that today's batteries are made differently and don't last as long as the old ones did. Even never using it on battery doesn't prevent the battery from weakening. It even weakens if removed and left on a shelf. Best to use and recharge regularly.
