DWM.exe and CSRSS.exe causing gpu to pin at 100%...

My computer is having an issue with DWM.exe and CSRSS.exe. When gaming, they bring GPU 0 (integrated Intel Graphics) to 100%, bottlenecking my GPU 1 (Nvidia 1050 mobile) causing excessive lag and a lot of heat. It comes in waves it seems, 10 min into gaming it starts, then 5-20 min later it ends, letting me play for 20-30 min with no issues, then it does it again. I have tried the following things:

~Checked for graphics card driver updates

~Reverted to previous versions of graphics card drivers

~Refreshed windows using the system recovery tools

~Fresh install of windows, games, and all drivers

~Turned off GPU 0 and GPU 1 switching

~Used GPU 0 instead of GPU 1

~Updated all other drivers

~Updated BIOS

~Downgraded BIOS

~Ran DISM and SFC

And the problem persists. I have a Dell XPS 15 (2017) 9560, with a Core i7 770HQ and an Nvidia 1050 in case that info is needed.

Do you have 100% dwm.exe gpu usage also without windows open just in the desktop?

After clicking out of the game, the problem persists for a few minuets. Then goes away. It also appears if I have more than 10 tabs open in chrome.

Hi,

I've been battling this problem for about 4 months. While the problem was solved for a while when DELL changed the motherboard for my computer, it did not "cure" the problem. Because the problem is back once again, making me believe that the new thermal paste that came with the new motherboard made it possible to keep the CPU cold for a little while.

But now when the CPU hits above 79C again, the Mhz for the CPU goes down to 800 and the iGPU goes down to either 0 or 100 Mhz. Therefore 100% of the iGPU is used to render the screen.

And because i use this computer for work, i am able to compare it to my co-worker who has the exact same computer without the problem. So far I can point out that the fan of my computer, does not sound very healthy compared to my co-workers computer, even if it does not do anything heavy.

I am still not 100% sure of the problem tho, could it be that your cooling system is having troubles? like to much dust within the computer? that the fan is not healthy? or even the thermal paste?

Try uninstalling both graphics drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller and reinstalling latest versions from Dell support site (or alternatively from Intel and NVidia site if not better). Look up the recommended procedure, so that Windows Update doesn't start installing the missing driver on its own.

I did that alongside the fresh install of windows

I have this exact same issue.

I have been told by Microsoft support that some hardware is currently incompatible with windows 10. The DELL XPS 9560 seems to be one of them

Spent over 100 hours trying to fix this issue, still no joy.

Hi

I have battled with the same problem on my XPS 15 recently and after screening different forums for solutions I found something that worked. (link)

https://appuals.com/how-to-fix-high-cpu-and-memory-usage-by-csrss-exe/

Apparently, my user profile was corrupted, so after creating a new profile and using that one instead the problem has disappeared.

I am yet to transfer my data from the old account to the new one, so I do not know if the problem returns if so.
