Dell SupportAssist causes XPS 13 9365 bsod with error in dellinstrumentation.sys
Dell SupportAssist seems to be causing my XPS 13 9365 to BSOD a minute or two after Windows 10 loads. SupportAssist seemed to have been updated today. This seems to be a thing on an Alienware thread where the solution seemed to be to disable the SupportAssist service and scheduled task and then uninstall. I have tried this but when it comes to uninstalling SupportAssist I get another BSOD but this time with a BAD_POOL_CALL error.
Has anyone any ideas to resolve this while Dell supplies a fix? Thank you in advance.

Are you able to run your system normally so you have an option to use the Uninstall Program options?
I never use Support Assist so I don't have much experience. But OEM type utilities can cause problems, even my ASUS system has trouble with theirs.
Also be aware, lately the Bios updates on the 9365 have been refusing to run when downloaded directly from Dell. I have been getting mine through Windows as optional updates.

Initially, no it would crash a couple of minutes after logging in. However, there was a Reddit thread on Alienware which suggested SupportAssist was the issue and that disabling the SupportAssist service (which is auto delayed start) would allow one to uninstall.
Disabling the SupportAssist service (and someone suggested the scheduled task but I am not sure that is necessary) restored stability. The uninstall initially hung but I have managed to resolve that and remove all the SupportAssist apps.
Something had updated the SupportAssist app today so I suspect that it is a Dell created issue. It is just a slight disappointment that Dell doesn't seem to be engaging with it.
Not in a rush to re-install!

I had a similar if not the same issue tonight. Uninstalled Dell support assistant and that did not help. Booted to Safe and navigated to the device manager and was able to disable the dellinstrumentation Driver. If you did this without being in Safe mode (and perhaps uninstalling Dell support assistant) I got a 'Bad pool caller' error and BSoD. I'm not really sure what the Dellinstrumentation driver does but I do hope Dell get it sorted.

Sounds very similar. I booted to Safe Mode and then disabled the SupportAssist service. This seemed to stop the crashes and I was able to uninstall SupportAssist after several attempts which included Bad_pool_call bsods. I eventually sorted the uninstall issue by running Microsofts install / uninstall troubleshooter.
The Dellinstrumentation.sys driver persists after the uninstall and the version on my machine is 2.8.2.0 modified on 22/03/2022. So I guess this is a bad update event.
Uninstalling SupportAssist also caused Dell Command Update to fail so I have uninstalled that too.
It would be nice if someone from Dell could comment and let us know when they have fixed it.

Me too on a XPS 13 9365 2-in-1 since the last update (April, 3). While it was impossible to uninstall Dell SupportAssist, I've renamed its folder.

Had this issue this morning on a Dell laptop.
Dellinstrumentation Device has an 'Event' dated today 04/04/2022 "Device configured (oem18.inf)". Driver is however dated 11/17/2021 version 2.8.2.0 so not new, but assume the configuration event is!
I disabled this device (not uninstalled) which seems to have restored stability. Hopefully Dell will check/resolve via a new driver or another event (whatever that is!).

* Uninstall SA (SupportAssist) 3.11 through Windows Apps & Features. Note, if the system is rebooting or if you are unable to uninstall the SA from normal Windows, attempt to boot into Safe Mode and uninstall SA there
* If you need SA now, you may download and install SA 3.10.4. Or you may simply use the PC without SA until the fixed newer version is on the main "SupportAssist for home PCs" page

Thank you, and for the tacit admission that there is a problem with SA 3.11. Uninstalling it was a faff as in Safe Mode the uninstaller was not available and in normal boot the system crashed too soon for the uninstall to run. I had to disable the SA service in Safe Mode and then uninstall.
Will look for a newer version of SA in due course.

I have just downloaded a newer version of SA (3.11.1.18) on to my laptop without problem (it was OK with the 'bad' version). Before i download it to my desktop PC does anyone know if this is the 'fixed' version? I do not want to go through the BSOD problems over again.

I would like to receive an official information from Dell. To not receive it is very disappointing.

Hello, my guarantee has expired and Dell refused to support me for free, despite the Dell Assistant is a Dell software and the BSOD is due to Dell. The community is waiting for an official update from Dell that resolves the crash problem. To not receive it is not acceptable.

I had your problem and I resorted to a 'System Restore' to a date before the update. I then was able to uninstall Support Assist and Dell update and await a 'fix'.
