Dell XPS 15 9500 external display issues

Hello everyone,

I purchased a Dell XPS 15 9500 i9 10th Gen laptop a few months ago. I have only just started to try the display out and to my horror it seems very problematic. I have been reading up on similar issues online though I still do not quite understand the problem or if they are entirely the same.

So basically I only have usb-c ports. I purchased a bonsaii usb-c to hdmi adapter to output to a tv or my monitor. At first I used it on my dell 24" monitor and seemed to work fine. Then after a while the display cut off and the monitor said no signal and I couldn't get it working after that.

Recently I tried again pluging it into my 4k tv. Like the monitor it seemed to work fine for a while then cut off. Since cutting off I can't get it to work with the TV anymore, just not detecting it. Windows doesn't detect anything either.

I've always trusted dell as their tower workstations seem solid. Though I'm really beginning to regret purchasing this laptop now. I have updated the latest bios thinking that would fix it, though no joy, infact that could have possibly made it worse as it's not working at all. Can anyone suggest anything else to try? cheers
