Dell XPS 9560 battery problem

I have a 3 years old XPS 9560 whose battery died suddenly, even the health in diagnostic is 71%. In all these 3 years 90% of time I used my laptop with AC adapter connected and with battery setting set as custom with levels between 50-55%. Few days ago I used my laptop on battery until the laptop drain all the power from it. After few hours, when I plugged the AC adapter the orange led starts to blink continuously and the laptop refuse to charge the battery. The diagnostic told me to replace the battery, even if before this event I could use my laptop at least 3 hours on full charged battery.

I'm so disappointed by Dell. It is not possible for a 3000 euro laptop to show that my battery has reached the end of life even if couple days ago the battery last for 3 hours in a developement enviroment. Today I replaced my battery with a new genuine one and now I can use my laptop again.

So, is it possible to revive my battery if the health is 71% and 1.1% charged? I mention that the battery is not swallowed!

I also have a 4 years old Lenovo ThinkPad laptop that I also keep it charged 50-55% and it has 23 cycles (Dell doesn't show numbers of recharging cycles) and the battery is like new. I tested yesterday a full discharge - charge and I can tell that I can use may laptop on battery like the first day. And fully discharged doesn't show me that the battery has reached the end of life. So a statement that 18-24 months is a normal lifespan doesn't stand up. Maybe is normal for someone who use the laptop most of the time on battery and not as a desktop workstation. I had a Dell made in Irland that after 7 years (4 years used + 3 years closed in the basement) the battery lasted for at least 4 hours of normal internet navigation browsing.

I had a lot of laptops over the years and this one is the first one whose battery has died suddenly.

I also have right now a Dell Latitude 5591 (i7-8850H) (and I keep it the same at 50-55% battery level) and I hope that I won't receive the same message that the battery has reached the end of life even if the laptop has only 200 hours of usage in 2 years.

Once again, I am very dissapointed and shame on Dell!

18-24 months is a normal lifespan, so yours has exceeded the expectations for the battery.

What's likely is that the battery was on the edge of expiring from age and use, and discharging it completely (doing so even once or twice can permanently damage it, which is why it's not recommended to do so) pushed it over the edge to oblivion.
