Dell XPS13 (2017) does no longer start up

So today I wanted to start up an old back up laptop that I still had lying around

When I started it up the battery light flashed orange, nothing happened and this I thought was because the battery was empty.

I charged the battery full and now when I want to start up the keyboard lights up then goes off and the laptop starts again and stays in this loop

Power light on
Keyboard on
Power light off
Power light on
Etc.

This only stops when I press the power light for a certain time.

Any idea how I can fix this?

One thing is for sure, it was a working laptop when I stopped using is / put it aside

Unplug the system, remove the base cover and disconnect the battery.  Hold the power button for 30 sec.

Reconnect the battery, plug in the AC adapter and see if the system will then power up.

got a little further after seeing a video by two young men who mentioned also disconnecting the CMOS batttery as well

The laptop now starts up but the system is bringing up the bitlocker recovery screen.
I have no clue what the key is and there does not seem to be a way to get back this screen.

Any suggestions?

I just need to get in windows to do a full reset since I want to give it to my son for school

Hope someone can help

Welcome to the Dell Community   @obionenairobi

Hold down the "D" key, push the power button, release the power button, wait 2-3 seconds and release the "D" key

The laptop should go through an LCD test of solid White, Red, Green, Blue and Black 2 or 3 times.

After completion it should try to automatically boot 2 or 3 times.

Post your results.

Best regards,

Is this the solution to bypass the bitlocker screen?
Because the laptop meanwhile does start up but I am stuck at the bitlocker recovery window

No, it's not.  That will simply initiate a screen test, but it sounds like the system will at least post to the security screen.  To proceed:

You need your bitlocker key to unlock the system.

If the system was activated using a Microsoft account, you can retrieve the key by logging into that.  If it was not associated with a Microsoft account, and you did not back up the key, hopefully there's nothing on the drive you need, because the data will be forever encrypted (i.e., lost to access).

If you don't need what's on the drive, you can always manually reinstall Windows to get the system up and running again.

Your hard drive was encrypted and any change on system board will Triger Bit Locker.

Most probably you removing /reseating CMOS must have caused it.

Find your BitLocker key here https://onedrive.com/recoverykey

You will have to login using the same Microsoft account as being used on this XPS

Once you enter your Bit Locker Key you should be able to get in to windows.

Since I was planning to re-install the laptop anyway I just created a Windows installation USB and bypassed all the keylocker stuff.

The laptop is running and my son is happy|
Thanks all for the advise
