With the help of Dell Technical Support I tried the same operation using a DVD-r & DVD -RW disc. I was not hopeful it would work as my R10 with the same version of Windows installed did work creating a Repair Disc on CD-R and I saw no reason a simpler machine would have a larger image…
However my XPS13Plus and XPS13 image is larger for some reason, and it did work using at DVD-R and DVD-RW disc . Images were 770-790M which is much larger than I have seen documented before.
Part of the issue no doubt is trying to use a backup utility that's over 10 years old on a new OS. There are far better ways to make backups, starting with the free version of Macrium Reflect, which fully supports Windows 11.
I understand it is "old school" however it works on my other Dell PCs with the same version of Windows installed so I know it does work, just not on my XPS13P. I would prefer not have different backup methods for different machines or learn a new technology every time I buy a new one:-) Thanks, Peter

Well, Macrium Reflect will run and backup Windows-7/8/10/11 32-bit and 64-bit.
But personally, I would not be so concerned with the old computers if you think your current backup solution is working on those. However, it might be a good idea to re-evaluate your backup procedures and reliability on those as well.
But for the new Dell XPS Laptop ... while you are welcome to contact Microsoft about your problems with their backup software, I suggest you at least consider joining us in the 2020's and use Macrium Reflect (it's free).
