How to deactivate volume level adjustment buttons on the side of the laptop?
Hello everyone,
I have a Dell XPS 13 P20S model laptop. Its volume down button on the left side is damaged somehow.
Whenever I launch the OS it automatically goes to 0 and there is volume muted notification on the screen all the time. Its annoying everytime when lauching the OS and seeing volume muted notification on the screen and not be able to adjust sound level as I prefer.
I would like to deactivate the button so that I can use the laptop sound without any interruption.
Here is what I tried so far;
- I tried to fix it by re-installing a few different windows version and 3rd party app to control the behavior of the buttons.
- I upgraded to BIOS to so if is there any option to change the button behavior.
- I opened up to bottom cover and saw the damage as you can see at below.
Any suggestions to cope with this kind of problem?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Ankou,
Thanks for posting. Apologies that your system is not performing as expected.
From looking at the part, have you thought of replacing the buttons? Seems they are on a separate board that just hooks in with a ribbon cable.
The part looks like it might still be available. Dell Part Number/SKU: C322P. Check with Dell Spare Parts, Parts-People.com, or Discount Electronics.

Hello,
I would like to know how to disable the volume control on the side of my Dell Latitude 7390. I am constantly hitting it by accident. I don't want to disable the speaker.
Thank you for you help.
