Is This a Problem....Or Normal; Hinge Issue on New 9310 XPS 2-in-1
Brand new XPS 9310 2-in-1; my second one, actually; the first one arrived Dec 5 had a screen issues (it would shut off...not 'sleep-mode'!!) for like 4 seconds while I'm using it). then it was made worse thru two tech support sessions (would get a glitch, like "problem with memory " on top of the screen stuff.
Let me say that ALL of my tech support/service interactions have been great over the decades, particularly the last year with my son's AW M15, and even the sessions that made my xps worse, they were all professional tried a ton of stuff and I felt they really cared about helping me get my issue solved (follow up calls a week(s) later from the tech you originally talked to...that's new & amazing!
That includes the replacement they gave me, which arrived today. Now, my actual question is....
I'm noticing that where the hinges have great, normal level of resistance in most positions, this one is 'loose; for the first 1/2" or so when you first open the clamshell, and (a bit more annoyingly) it's also there when you're using it in tablet mode. Basically, if I hold computer upside by the chassis only, the screen opens about 1/2 inch....same exact thing happens if you flliip to full tablet mode and hold it the same way.
I didn't use my now-returned unit for the last week or so, but I'm PRETTY sure that on my previous unit the same smooth level of resistance throughout the ENTIRE range of the hinge...there were no 1/2 inch 's ;loose-gaps.
But I could be off on that, so that's why I'm here; can someone that has a current, newish 9310 check their hinges and let me know if you have the issue i describe?
Thanks!

Hi there, I recently took delivery of my XPS 9310 and i don't have the same problem you have with the hinge. Mine in those positions is quite tight. However, I do have problems with mine in the laptop orientation. The hinges don't feel that strong to hold it in place. It hasn't fallen of its own accord as yet but, if I move the whole laptop gently, holding from the base, the screen progressively flops down and it doesn't feel like it will be too long before this happens with even the slightest of touches. I also get a click from one of the hinges when rotating back from flat. Is this normal? It's not what I'd expect from a device of this cost.
Everything else so far I love but this is a real concern.

Same issue here. Brand new XPS 13 2 in 1. The hinge is tight anywhere between 60 and 120 degree angle. It starts to loosen outside that range to a point where the lid flops down. Bummer, otherwise great device but it is annoying (considering $2k+) so I am returning.
