Keyboard issue
I have a Dell XPS 15 9500 and suddenly my keyboard has stopped working save for a view certain keys( power button, F5 key, and keys F6+F7) around the same time I've been updating multiple drivers on quick driver updater( I'm sure that had anything to do with it I'm simply providing context). Upon further investigation I have discovered that the driver called ELAN Keyboard Filter Device is displaying the following status: windows cannot start this Hardware device because it's configuration( in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (Code 19). I have already attempted to update the driver or to disable it and then re-enable it with no results. What should I do now?

Update: here is all the details that I have found pertaining to my issue from examining my device manager:
Device status: windows cannot start this Hardware device because it's configuration information(in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
Problem status:
-object name not found.
-C0000034
During an attempt to uninstall these events were recorded:
-Device deleted
-Device install requested
-Device not migrated(Info: the device was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match.)
-Driver service added (ETD_Keyboard)
-Driver service added (i8042prt)
-Driver service added (kbdclass)
I hope that will provide even more context. I really want to get this resolved as quickly as possible because I require this computer for my college work and definitely I need it in working order. Please help me!

Please run Keyboard troubleshooter on the system by typing Troubleshoot onto [Cortana] search box. The troubleshooter find and fix problems with your computer's keyboard settings.
If Troubleshooter doesn't fix keyboard:
Uninstall / reinstall keyboard driver in device manager.
1. Right click keyboard driver and select Uninstall
2. Select Action on the Device Manager menu bar
3. On the Action menu, select Scan for hardware changes to reinstall driver
If that doesn't work:
1. Right click keyboard driver
2. Select Properties
3. Select Roll back Driver under the Driver tab
Lastly, if keyboard still doesn't work normally:
Roll system back to the most recent successful configuration of the registry, restart the computer in Safe Mode and select the Last Known Good Configuration option. Hopefully this will finally fix the computer's keyboard.

I have already attempted to run troubleshooters on my keyboard and it always says " no changes or updates were necessary"
When I look at the troubleshooting report details under potential issues that were checked it always shows " text services framework is not running" to which to the side says " issue not present"

Hi,
I just went through this, so hopefully this helps.
I suspect this issue is potentially related to virtual machines, so I guess be careful if you use any, but I really don't know...
Just to be sure, check that the keyboard works in the diagnostic tools (press F12 during boot).
Ok now you need to check the configuration of the device in the Registry.
To do that, go to Device Manager, open the defective device window, go to details, then select "Class Guid" from the drop down list and copy the value.
Then open the Registry Editor (search regedit.msc in windows), navigate to :
hkey_local_machine/system/CurrentControlSet/Control
Then on the "Class" folder, right click, then "find" and paste the guid you copied before, then "find next".
You should now be looking at the "incomplete or damaged" configuration mentioned in the driver error message.
Now I'm not sure what it should look like exactly, but comparing it with my other computers I found that in the "UpperFilters" entry, I had "kbdclass vmkbd" on the XPS, and only "kbdclass" on my other computers, so I removed the vmkbd part, close the registry editor, rebooted the XPS and my keyboard was back!
Again, I think the "vmkbd" part is related to virtual machines but I don't use any so yeah...
Good luck!
