I have the same problem, since a long time. I cannot use my XPS 13 for videocalling, have to use another laptop!
I reinstalled the Realtek driver several times, and also uninstalled MAXX Audio Pro Waves (as I couldnt toggle the voice there, which was a recommendation in another string).
What can I do? Videocalling is a dayly need meanwhile...
The mic has never been good on my machine, but now even using external headphones is not working - there's an echo and the people receive broken inputs. I have the most updated Realtek drivers. It's quite frustrating, because of both the camera and the mic, I'm practically unable to use my fairly expensive laptop for any video calls. Any help or solutions would be great.
I've been speaking to Dell tech support the last three days and they are failing to help me. I bought this really expensive laptop for work which is largely video calling!
Had the same issue but I finally found a solution that worked for me. This fixed my problems for both external microphones plugged into the AUX jack, as well as the integrated microphone.
The setting that caused the problem was "Microphone Amplification" (I believe that's what it's called in english)
Go to: Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound/Manage audio devices -> Recording -> Select Microphone Array (i.e. the default input device) -> Click on properties (bottom right) -> Levels -> Set Microphone Amplification (the bottom slider) to 0 (mine was set to +30dB). Adjust the top slider as needed (I had to set mine to 100 to hear my voice clearly).
Turning off the MaxxWavesAudio microphone "improvements" (if you can call them that...) took care of any remaining noise from my microphone.
I had the same issue happening to my latest windows 10 update on my xps 13 9343.
First try uninstalled all the intel/realtek audio drivers for microphone and audio in device manager, rebooted and reinstalled the realtek audio driver downloaded from Dell support site and rebooted again. It still did not work for microphone - not picking any sound or just very low sound.
Second try was exactly the same one. Except that this time after I uninstalled the audio drivers and rebooted. I also removed the bluetooth headphones that were paired. Then I reinstalled the Dell audio driver again and the microphoneworkedproperly on the laptop. It might be more a windows 10 problem from my point of view. Saying that there some other model laptops do not have this issue. I also suggested to used the Realtek program to disable the sound effect for the microphone for better quality of audio.
Hi, Depending on the application you're using, you might also want to look at the privacy settings in Windows 10. Try turning on the top on/off toggle to on.

on my 7590 in order to get a decent sound level from the mic input you have to boost the mic input to 30dB.

If you are already working with the Dell support, please continue working with them and they''ll do their best to sort this issue for you.

I just found this solution on reddit which I've tried and seems to work so far:

Fingers crossed it works for you.

Thank you for posting this solution. I followed other suggestions before trying this one. Microphone now works perfectly!
