Just wanted to say I am having similar issues. I got the same XPS 13 9300 model in March and it has not worked since I got it, has had issues with the screen flickering, computer crashing. Sent it into the depot twice, on my 3rd motherboard. Still not working. I've had issues with wifi, with audio, with bootup.
Dell refuses to replace the computer (i issued the ticket 40 days after purchase, as opposed to the 30 day policy). I have been on the phone with Dell 10 times and sent it in twice for repair, both times it came back less functional than when I sent it in. If anyone is reading this and thinking about buying a Dell XPS 13, all I can say is it is the decision I regret most in recent memory and I will never buy a Dell product ever again.
I've had two XPS 13 before this 9300 2020 edition and both were awesome little machines, however the 9300 is riddled with issues since day 1. They are :
1. Non stop nois fan running and it runs incredibly hot with resulting short battery life.
2. Does not sleep. If it does sometimes sleep then it wakes to a Dell logo black screen which does not reboot.
3. Screen colours have a mind of their own.
4. Killer wifi keeps coming up with error messages.
Dell support have been pretty useless. Their only solution is to reinstall Windows. For over £2000 I expect better.
I am also very disappointed with my XPS 13. Aesthetically it is really very nice but when I use it with power it seems to work with a vacuum cleaner because of the fans. I thought mine was defective and I had it replaced with a new one, but even this new one looks like a vacuum cleaner. For the screen flicker it was enough to disable the HDR option in the settings.
AJ84 - Well it is August 2nd and the wife and I bought a XPS each in June and both have noise problems on the laptop screen. My wife is upset because I talked her out of buying Microsoft products like her friends own. But anyway this should answer your question I guess - bought 2 laptops and have 2 faulty laptops from Dell.
Sorry to hear your problems but was this aimed at me? I don't remember asking a question on this thread and have gone back the 7 pages to see if I missed something?
As for the issues - What noise problems on the screen? As in the garbled image lines some are getting?
For the final comment you made, every manufacturer will have issues whether its microsoft, dell, apple. I work with most brands on a daily basis and get in every make and model for repair - We probably have recently had more Microsoft products that have been written off because they are not user-serviceable due to it being a sealed unit and we only open it if 100% sure a part will fix it or a customer wants it repaired and is happy to pay for the time/parts.
You have/had various rights when purchasing the units so I'm surprised if it was an issue, you did not just return it within your 14/30 day period depending on where you are located.
Don't get me wrong, Dell have their fair share of issues and I did actually return my 9300 in the end for other reasons and have since had 3 XPS 15s and a Precision 5550 all with the infamous trackpad wobble issues but I exercised my return rights immediately and returned every device - thats what it is there for
Hopefully you get yours resolved and/or return it - it sounds like you have made your mind up about the 9300 which on the whole was a really good machine bearing in mind I got one of the first ones. The screen garble is an issue potentially related to the graphics chip so that I would get resolved asap. If you meant fan noise and nothing to do with screen, you can do things to help it - re-pasting will knock the temps down. Clean install will help get rid of any rubbish, maybe get a fan usb pad/mat. But overall, its a slim machine packed with lots of power and so the fans will run and continue to run when pushed. My work surface laptop is no different and while developing on Friday for instance, the fan did not stop once in the 8 hours I was on it.
Why you shouldn't by theDELL XPS 13 9300 / 2020 yet!
Hi, I must say I was really wondering seeing all the negative news here about the XPS 13 / 2020 version. Couldn't believe that the so high ranked test results are misleading. But unfortunately, the do! I bought the DELL XPS 13 9300 6RDT7 13,4" UHD early July this year. I really love the haptic and the edge display. In the beginning, I thought the batterie capacity needs some days to get better. Dell proved me wrong, even not using the Laptop and turning off all mandatory apps, I got less than 3 hours of battery life. I have run the battery report, which told me the battery works excellent. Then I went to this forum and saw all the bad news. Before I returned the XPS finally I tested at least if a new BIOS update or fresh install of Windows is impacting the battery life positively. No change! Honestly, I'm very disappointed by Dell and also by the test results given on Youtube and other Platforms. Everywhere, you can read this laptop has a battery life of up to 20hours. Even 11-12 would be fine for me. But 3 hours is so poor. This machine has a price of 2000 EUR and is those not even reach approximately an average Battery Life. Besides this, I encountered as well really bad wifi connecting using the Killer Control App.
I think overall Dell is currently purchasing a product or a specific production charge with complete wrong settings or a defect charge of batteries. I totally disagree with some experiments on this site, to do tweaks in the BIOS or other optimizations inside the system. Not for this amount of money. I expect an excellent product, not a lame duck. After 4 weeks I exchanged my XPS against a Think Pad! Sorry Dell but this was my one and only experience which you.
Manufacturers do all have issues but the fact that issues present when the laptop launched in march (5 months ago) are still happening is pretty damning.
"Display power savings" has to be disabled in the Intel Graphics app every cold boot to avoid messing up colors to the point they're unusable for any professional application because dell refuse to put the option in the BIOS to have it disabled by default (Intel were able to alert me that this is a firmware option set at boot time).
Battery life is completely all over the place, Ive had under 5 hours and over 10 hours doing the same things (Web browsing/youtube).
As for the loud fan noise - I'd be with you here, except that previous generation XPS13 (9380 and prior) were able to run at 25w package power with similar (or less) fan noise - the 9300 locks to 15w whether on battery or plugged in. Given its 10w lower package draw compared to previous generations, it certainly shouldnt be LOUDER.
And the worst part, since I've been trying to fix all these issues for 5 months I've been keeping up with my updates. As of a couple BIOSes ago, it now doesnt work with docking stations either. USB-C/Thunderbolt to HDMI is totally broken at the moment. I can't use my anker, cable matters or plugable docks.
A "Premium" notebook with unreliable battery life, that can't use a docking station, is lower powered than it's predecessor (15w vs 25w), and requires user interaction every start-up to prevent colors being changed on screen (also a problem present in previous XPS 13s that Dell STILL has not learned from) culminates to a pretty massive failure.
Thanks I've been reading this thread and I'm going to make sure if there are any issues just send it back and keep my Macbook Pro or maybe get a Razer Blade. 30 days from the day it ships. For $3,000 CAD I better be getting a perfect laptop.
In short, throughout almost 4 months, I went through :
1 swap
4 main board replacements
1 SSD replacement
1 fan / heat-sink replacement
1 display replacement
1 battery replacement
1 power key replacement
1 keyboard replacement
All this to say that I am now on a device that is ok, under win 10 pro (except quite poor battery life) with latest Bios and Dell drivers installed with SupportAssistant application.
So given my personal experience I don't believe that driver / bios updates will solve most of the issues listed here; they never did in my case and now, running the same setup / drivers as before, I don't encounter any more issues. I therefore think it really mostly is hardware related (bad assembly and/or quality of components or whatever).
It's Crazy how Dell managed to ruin a solid brand such as XPS.
I had Dell XPS for almost 6 years, and I loved my past XPS 13.
When they released the new lineup, I didn't hesitate to buy it. I now fully regret it.
I'm having the same screen flickering issues whenever I'm on a Zoom Call or Watching Netflix
Contacted Dell 3 times about it.
First time they suggested me to update all the drivers. Done...problem persisted.
Second time they sent someone to my house (mid lockdown) to replace the LCD screen. Problem still persisted
Third time I demanded a full replacement and they denied saying that it past the "30 days return" period.
I'm extremely frustrated with Dell QC. I had Dell XPS before and never had a single problem. This shouldn't happen to an expensive laptop.
In addition, thermals and performance is really bad. Laptop gets really hot and under performs even with light tasks. I'm desperate trying to get a full replacement or my money back.
One thing for sure. Not buying a XPS again. Congrats Dell.
You likely won't get replacement or refund. As mentioned, I struggled for 4 months (even had to buy another laptop in the meantime to get the work done). They indeed consider 30 days from 1st invoice. I had a swap device within the 1st 30 days that was also faulty (dead pixels on delivery before usb port failure after 1 week) but by the time it was delivered I was over the 30 days of the order. They didn't "reset" the counter upon delivery of the swap. So basically it is a one shot if you ask for it at the very beginning. Only other way to get a swap is after 3 non satisfying repairs within 30 days. But here again, you have to be lucky that they can and do arrange 3 repairs within that period. For one repair I had to wait 15 days + for availablity of the spares. That obviously also limits the chances to get 3 repairs within 30 days. All you can do is to insist on repairs until they get it right (and buy another laptop to actually get the job done).

So the machine is working "better" for now.
AFTER
the motherboard was replaced.
1 - Thunderbolt works better
2 - It boots in about 15 seconds
3 - Fans aren't spinning up like crazy
4 - Battery is lasting longer
However, it is just 2 days that I've had it back and it took the screen going "blank" on me in order to get a repair authorized.

Hi,
just to add my 2 cents. I've encountered a lot of the problems mentioned here before finally ending up with a device that works (for now flawlessly since 2 weeks). For those interested, my full story here : https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/Why-you-should-think-twice-before-buying-a-DELL-at-least-in/td-p/7572133
In short, throughout almost 4 months, I went through :

I hope Dell gets it's ** together:
laptop 1:
Screen not working (DOA)
no fix - swap
laptop 2:
Sound issues.
Speakers replaced
Motherboard replaced
no fix - swap
Laptop 3:
Overheating issues
no fix - swap
Laptop 4:
Waited a couple of weeks for this replacement.
Blue-screen while installing updates. Factory reset. No issues after this (fingers crossed)
