RAM Upgrade
Folks,
I have a Dell XPS 15 (L501X) laptop which was purchased in 2011. I would like to replace the ‘RAM Memory Cards’. I know how to do this, but I’m not sure about the maximum amount of memory I can install. I’ve read that it is 8GB but I’ve seen videos that show 16GB memory being installed. Can anyone tell me what the maximum memory limit should be - I suspect it safer to go for 8GB, but would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Welcome to the Dell Community @Catcha61
Just like Dell manuals Crucial is a good reference but is not always correct in aspects to what the hardware limitations are.
That's why they have this disclaimer *Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory.*
What CPU do you have installed???
Best regards,

@Catcha61
8GB is the CPU's max memory.

Most of the time this value is correct.
The only other thing I can do is test it come Tuesday.
I'll find one in my warehouse and give it a try then.

NOTE:
The i7-640M is the highest rated CPU for your laptop.
