TB16 not charging XPS 9550
I recently purchased a TB16 with 240 watt power supply. Everything seems to be working, except that Windows shows that the computer is "plugged in, not charging".
Additionally, the BIOS gives me a warning when I boot the laptop "Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available." (see image)
Is this just a faulty dock/power adapter?

This came up recently, and the issue turned out to be either a bad dock or dock power adapter. The user wasn't sure which because they just exchanged the whole kit as a unit. Technically it's possible that your system has a problem with charging over USB-C, but I consider that far less likely. But just as a quick check to potentially avoid the hassle of an exchange, make sure you're running the latest system firmware/BIOS and also install the recently released firmware update for the TB16 itself.

Thanks for that info jp. The dock firmware and all the drivers are up to date, so like you say, I think it is either the power supply or the dock itself. I purchased this used on ebay from a seller that had a few hundred of them, so I would say that there's a higher than normal chance that the one I received is defective. I just found it strange that literally everything works except the charging function. Truly hoping this does not turn out to be the laptop.

For anyone else with this issue, the problem turned out to be the power supply. Replaced the power supply and the laptop started charging immediately.

I had this same issue today: the same TB16 that has been charging my XPS 9570 for 3 years refused to - battery icon etc. After trying this and that (unplug-plug back in the cord from TB16 to computer, reboot, and some other things) the problem was resolved after unplugging the plug adapter from the TB16 and plugging it back in.
