Touchpad does not work sometimes (XPS 7590 / Windows 11)

Hello,

Last week I did a clean install of Windows 11 on my Dell XPS 7590.

Since then, I have had the problem that the touchpad occasionally fails to work or the touchpad stops working every so many secs.

I have not had this problem on Windows 10.

When I restart the computer the problem is again (temporarily) resolved. There is no pattern to detect when the problem does/does not occur.

All drivers (Windows Update / Dell Update) are up to date.

Does anyone here have similar problems?

Thanks in advance for the support.

The problem seems to be related to the "Intel(R) Serial IO I2C Host Controller - A368 and A369. When I disable and enable this driver (when my touchpad isn't working) it will start working again.

It's a temporary fix though, after a reboot the problem occurs again. (Yes, I turned off the energy saving setting)

I have exactly the same problem on the same machine, xps 7590.

I migrated to windows 11 from windows 10 and now the touchpad works weirdly. It seems like if I press sufficiently on it but not clicking then the cursor is moving. Otherwise it is frozen.

I just upgraded the BIOS to 1.13 and all drivers, and it seems to have fixed the problem.

It happens to me as well, same laptop.

Same issues under Windows 11 after migration from Windows 10, and under Windows 11 clean installation as well.

It happens after going to standby / modern standby for long period of time, and recovers after reboot.
Symptoms of a driver issue IMO.

Which is weirdest is fact the touchpad is not entirely non-functional, but respond to high-pressure touches to the point you're triggering clicks instead of tracking.

Two months passed, and yet no resolution for this issue. Seriously you have terrible support for a device for more than 2000 dollars. I should have bought a Macbook. 🤦‍

For everyone looking for fix. This solution works -> Solved: Re: XPS 15 TouchPad/ClickPad Intermittent Problems - Possible Workaround - Page 3 - Dell Community . Though I am suggesting to download the latest driver instead of the suggested one => Intel Serial IO Driver | Driver Details | Dell US . I hope this helps.

Same problem here. Windows11 clean installation. The touchpad randomly stops working for some seconds, and only a reboot "fix" the problem. I noticed that a couple of times this happened after waking up the PC from standby mode. All the drivers are updated and I'm running the latest version of Win11.

I also have the same problem (with a dell xps 15 7590), I updated my laptop to windows 11 and my touchpad only works for 1 min after startup. Then I lose the scroll function and the next minute the touchpad itself is not responsive. I already tried the solution Van gave (https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/XPS-15-TouchPad-ClickPad-Intermittent-Problems-Possible/m-p/8009917/highlight/true#M87949) and it still doesn't fix the scrolling issue.

I have also reset my XPS twice and have still come across this issue.

I have the same issue. Unbelievable that such a basic issue for such a premium device is taking months to fix. A proper explanation by Dell would be appropriate.

It is march 2022 but Dell still doesn't provide a solution for this problem?

The issue is still persistent and it is very irritating. Dell support team please respond on this matter.

I agree. I have the same problem. My touchpad will stop responding randomly and move randomly until I restart my machine. As someone mentioned in earlier thread, if I press it hard my mouse moves. I am actually disappointed with my XPS. It has too many issues. Another issue being not able to wake up sometimes after it goes to sleep. I hope this get fixed soon

Same issue here. Dell Inspiron 7490 (2019, bought in March 2020), my touchpad randomly stops working. I can move it but no other functions work. This started happening in the last 2-3 weeks - did a reinstall of Win 11 (upgraded in October, everything worked fine) but the problem still happens. Please help, I did everything I could to fix this. I work with documents so this is a really annoying problem.

It has been noted that if you disable power management from the controller Intel(R) Serial IO I2C Host Controller - A369 the problem is solved temporarily since every time you reboot the power management gets re enabled.
